Stand Up 2 Cancer aired the other day and I was able to catch most of it. The timing was fitting as this September 13th marks the 4th anniversary of the day I lost my mom to cancer.
I really appreciated that the show didn’t focus just on Cancer Survivors but that they equally focused on those touched by cancer and those I call Cancer Warriors. To me, Cancer Warriors are the people who tried just as hard and wanted to live just as badly as the Survivors but unfortunately didn’t make it. Not that I’m not thrilled for all the Survivors out there, but sometimes I feel the Warriors who lost their battles with cancer despite all their determination are forgotten.
I went online and order 3 “In Memory Of” shirts; one for myself, brother & sister. Similar to the one you see Halle Berry wearing to the left.
I will be seeing them this weekend for my nephew’s 4th birthday so I am hoping the shirts come soon. My mom’s first grandchild was born the day before she passed away. She never got to see him. I spent my time split between the cancer hospital and the hospital where my nephew was born. I was able to show my mom his footprints; she laughed and said he had big feet. This is the last conversation I remember having with her. I had taken a bunch of pictures on my digital camera but didn’t have time to get them printed. Unfortunately, her vision was going and she was too out of it to really focus on the tiny viewfinder so she didn’t even get to see his picture. I was too tired to go to the hospital early the next morning and that’s when she passed away.
It’s been 4 years, which sounds like a long time, but not a day goes by that I don’t think of my best friend and mom.

Some of the highlights of the live telethon were the musical collaborations, including the closing song Just Stand Up performed by more than a dozen of today’s divas which you can watch embedded here.
I love children’s songs. Today I heard “Lick a Lolly” for the first time, which has a catchy tune. Also the video of it is pretty darn funny and maybe a bit disturbing?
I had been seeing the commercials Fox’s new series Drive for awhile. They barely caught my attention and I had no intention of adding this new show to my viewing roster.
But luckily for Fox, I had the TV on in the background tuned to The Simpsons while doing other stuff when Drive came on before I realized it.
I was hooked within the first 5 minutes.
Might have had something to do with Nathan Fillion who I’ve been drawn to ever since his days on One Life To Live as Joey Buchanan. (Of course we all know he was great on FireFly too.)
I even skipped watching Desperate Housewives to see the 2nd hour of the premiere.
Drive is about participants in an illegal cross-country road race for $32 million. But if you are expecting an unimaginative show about cars and speed (like I was) change your expectations now! Many of the “racers” have been coerced into the race by various methods (not yet completely revealed) such as Fillion’s character, Alex Tully, whose wife has been kidnapped by unknown persons affiliated with the race. The race becomes almost secondary to the individual characters, their backgrounds, and their varied motives for winning.
Unfortunately, Drive seems to have not done so well in this week’s ratings with only 6 million people watching on Sunday evening. Has me wondering if it will suffer the same fate as other much loved but fast canceled series?

Hahaha, I can’t figure out if I like Jael or not. If she goes far this season I doubt she’ll do well in competitions that include actually speaking. Watch her “Blewish” booty get tossed in a pool at a swanky party by 50 Cent after harassing him all evening.
While I am still watching LOST this season I am really disappointed with the new 10PM time slot. Also, the recap (rerun!) ep from the previous week at 9PM is annoying too. I understood it the first 2 weeks when they played last season’s finale and then this season’s premiere again… but they did it again this week. Doesn’t ABC know you can watch it ONLINE if you missed it!
I think ABC is killing the momentum of the show. First a long break and tons of reruns, and now a time switch. Tsk. Or maybe I’m just frustrated with the content. Though actually this week made me like the annoying and whiny Jack a little better.
